Cherie Henderson, PhD candidate

Cherie Henderson is a doctoral candidate in communications at Columbia University. She was a fellow in Columbia's interdisciplinary Program in Narrative Medicine and was a fieldwork supervisor and course assistant for its master’s program, from which she holds a degree. Research interests include the intersection of death and humor, and culturally dominant narratives of the illness and disability experience. Previously, she initiated and led writing workshops at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Earlier, she was a staff journalist at The Miami Herald and The Associated Press. She graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a journalism degree.
