biography
I am a hospital based physician in the Division of Hospital Medicine at OHSU in Portland, OR. My academic interests are medical education, particularly identity formation and reflective practice. I am the Director of Narrative Medicine in the OHSU YourMD curriculum transformation where I bring reflective writing, close reading of literary texts, visual art and other humanities based practices to medical students, residents and faculty. I teach an interprofessional course in narrative competence to students from all the health professional programs at OHSU. I am a member of the NW Narrative Medicine Collaborative and the program director of the first Northwest Narrative Medicine Conference (www.nwnmcollaborative.org) being held in Sept 2016 in Portland, OR. I look forward to connecting with others who are interested in medical humanities for both educating future health professionals and providing excellent, patient-centered care.
