Offer public and accessible lecture on the medical humanities and promote the understanding of medicine as a humanist profession.

As one of its signature programs, the Center for the Humanities offers the Henry King Stanford Distinguished Professors series in the Humanities.  The series features prominent scholars who present lectures, seminars, and workshops for faculty, graduate students, and the general public.  Among the four speakers invited to the University of Miami for the 2019-20 academic year, is Dr. Allan Brandt.  Brandt holds a joint appointment between the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Harvard Medical School.  Brandt will offer several events on campus including the Stanford Lecture, “Enduring Stigma: Historical Perspectives on Disease Meaning and their Impacts” and a lunch seminar entitled, “How to (De)stigmatize an Epidemic: Lessons from the Public Humanities.” More details: https://humanities.as.miami.edu/public-programs/stanford-distinguished-professors/index.html
